The City of Tukwila and Waste Management are partnering again to offer a Video, Photo, Art Contest for students K-12 who live in, or go to school in, Tukwila. Students are invited to demonstrate how they re-think, reduce, reuse, or recycle by creating a short video (sixty seconds or less), photograph, drawing, or recycled art project. Examples could include video of actions that reduce waste, showing creative examples of reuse, or reminding others which items are recyclable per the city’s recycling guide.
Prizes will be awarded by two age categories – Elementary students (grades K-5) and Secondary students (grades 6-12.) The top finalist in each category will receive $350, 2nd place – $200, and 3rd place – $100. Teachers can win prizes too! Teachers who incorporate projects into their classwork will be recognized and the teacher with the most students submitting contest entries will win $400 for class supplies. Students may also enter independently of a class; it is not required that their teacher participate.
Top finalists and some participants will be showcased on City of Tukwila and Waste Management websites and social media platforms.
No experience is necessary to enter the contest. Students of all ages and abilities are welcomed to participate. Fun and creativity are encouraged. Videos can be shot on cell phones, tablets, or cameras. City of Tukwila and Waste Management will be judging submissions on creativity, relevance to the waste reduction/recycling theme, quality, and effort.
Submissions are due Friday, April 8, 2022, by 5 p.m. Finalists will be announced on April 21, the day before Earth Day, 2022.
