National Police Officers Memorial Day
May 11, 2020 @ 9:00 am - 10:00 am
You are cordially invited to view the Tukwila Police Department’s National Police Officers Memorial Day Ceremony. A link will be shared by e-mail and on social media.
** The video and link will be posted tomorrow morning for viewing. Please take a moment to day to remember those that have given their life in the line of duty. I have included a link to the Officer Down Memorial page if you would like to learn more about a fallen officer or research the history of law enforcement line of duty deaths. **
In 1962, President John F. Kennedy signed a proclamation which designated May 15 as Peace Officers Memorial Day and the week in which that date falls as Police Week. Sunday May 10th begins the week in which we honor fallen law enforcement personnel across the nation. We have traditionally honored those who have given their lives in the in the line of duty a through a brief but meaningful ceremony conducted on the Monday morning of Police Week. This year due to the COVID-19 pandemic we have opted to conduct and present the ceremony in video format. Across the country we have lost 61 officers in the line of duty in 2020. We welcome you to take a few minutes this week to view the ceremony and honor the fallen and their families.
