The objective is to increase available salmonid rearing habitat and increase flood refuge in lower Duwamish River and improve fish access to Riverton Creek and enhance salmon rearing and resting area.
Project Status Update
11-10-21
2021 was the year in which Riverton Creek was removed from the pipes that had connected it with the Duwamish River for more than 50 years. This fall, adult salmon have been seen swimming in the creek and the hope is that juvenile salmon will benefit from this restored connection to access off-channel habitat prior to heading out to sea by feeding, growing and adapting to their saltwater future. The project is now substantially complete. The new bridge has been installed and the trail is open. The Contractor is finishing up some items including fencing and landscaping. Artist Sarah Kavage completed an amazing water-oriented and multi-lingual mural along the wall adjacent to the trail. More of Sarah’s creative expressions are slated for the coming months.
