Minor Home Repair Program

Minor home repair assistance provides low-income homeowners with small-scale home repairs that impact health and safety. Some examples of the types of work done include:

  • Fixing leaking faucets and clogged drains
  • Replacing broken toilets and sinks
  • Replacing broken light switches
  • Installing smoke detectors
  • Installing locks and deadbolts
  • Installing grab bars/handrails and other accessibility modifications

 

Eligibility Requirements

To qualify for the Minor Home Repair Program, you must meet the following requirements. Even if you qualify, services are dependent on funding availability.

  • Must be the homeowner.
  • Must currently reside in the home.
  • Must have lived in your home at lease one year.
  • Must have a total household adjusted gross income that is below 60% as defined by the US Department of Housing and Urban Development. HUD Income Limit Guidelines
  • Repairs requested must affect the health and/or safety of residents.

 

Services Provided

Services are provided at no cost to the homeowner and are based on a determination of need and available resources. Health and safety services are done on the primary structure of the house only (no carports, free-standing garages, or fences).

  • Safety: Install smoke alarms, carbon monoxide alarms and security lights. Repair and/or replace steps and stairs.
  • Plumbing: Repair and/or replace water heaters, leaking faucets, valves, toilets, sinks, drains, and pipes.
  • Electrical: Repair and/or replace non-working lights, switches, outlets, circuits, and exhaust fans.
  • Heating: Repair and/or replace faulty furnace fans, thermostats and faulty primary heating equipment that is the sole source of heat.
  • Adaptations for Disabilities: Install handrails and grab bars to address accessibility.
  • Roofing: Application of treatment to kill and/or inhibit moss growth. Repair minor roof leaks. Replace gutters and downspouts.

The King County Housing Repair Program provides major repairs such as replacing a roof or installing a new septic system.
