Grants for Non-Profits
The City of Tukwila values the impactful work of non-profits who serve our community. As a result, the City allocates a portion of its general fund budget to support grants to organizations delivering services and resources to Tukwila residents. These programs provide services that meet a critical need, and are affordable and accessible (free, low-cost, cost-adjusted according to income).
Funding Process
In the spring of each even year (2024, 2026, etc.), the City of Tukwila accepts requests for human services funding through a common application called Share1. The common app allows organizations to apply for funding from Tukwila and 16 other cities in King County.
Applications are reviewed through a competitive process to award funding to non-profit agencies serving Tukwila residents. Applications are submitted in the spring, reviewed through the summer months, and a final recommendation is put forth to City Council in the fall. Agencies are notified of funding in November/December, and contracts are signed for the upcoming year. Funds are dispersed to organizations over the following two-year period.
The next application will open in March 2026 which will be for funding distributed in 2027-2028. For an overview of the funding timeline, see the illustration below.
Funding Criteria
In order to be eligible for human services funding from the City of Tukwila, agencies must:
- Submit a complete application by the deadline.
- Meet a critical need in the City of Tukwila.
- Be able to submit quarterly reports that include program data and demographics.
- Hold a current 501(c)3 status.
- Meet the city’s insurance and business licensing requirements.
Before You Apply
City of Tukwila staff are available to help with any questions related to the City’s process or application. Organizations who are new to this process or who have not been funded by the City before are strongly encouraged to contact Stacy Hansen prior to submitting an application.
It is important that agencies applying for funding know the Tukwila community, understand networking opportunities, and write a competitive application. Grants are limited and are not available outside the biennial funding process. Technical workshops are offered each funding cycle that are open to any organization staff who want to know more about the process or who have specific questions. The website will be updated with workshop dates once they have been determined.
Contracts and Reporting
Organizations funded by the City of Tukwila are required to submit timely quarterly performance reports as well as annual demographics and outcomes. Programs must be able to track services and other data in order to receive reimbursement for services.
